Last wednesday night was another do good and feel good kind of night. I attended the closing ceremonies of the 16 Days of Activism, Saying NO to Violence Against Women. It was a joyous event celebrated with the wonderful and empowered ladies of Zonta International District 17 Area 5.

(The very empowered woman who made the 16 Days of Activisim possible, Area 5 Director Bing Carrion.)
The 16 Days of Activism started on November 25 with an advocacy march from the Dusit Thani Manila to the Glorietta Activity Center. We were all in our ORANGE SAY NO t-shirt to raise awareness about the 16 days long activities promoting women empowerment. It was attended by over a thousand people and the mall was filled with a bonanza of orange and gold.

Each day of activism was assigned to a Club from District 17 Area 5. We were given the liberty to showcase all the projects we have that can help women and children who pass through the activity center. My Zontians from Club of Pasay and Environs were in charge of Day 3, November 27.
The activity we prepared for the day was “Empowering Women Through Financial Literacy”. We had activities that helped women better manage their finances. There was financial counseling by means of analyzing their financial needs. We educated women about the common financial mistakes they commit.
Of course you can’t be financially free without a means of income. So aside from some business advice we partnered with First Asia (Tel: 332-1455, 130-A Malakas St. Brgy. Central, Diliman QC), a manpower corporation that provided job applications and opportunities which the guests applied for.

In a nutshell we educated participants and gave them a stepping-stone to showcase and exercise the knowledge they collected.
(During the last night of the 16 Days of Activism, giving my report to the entire Glorietta 5 passers by and Zontians, on what happended during the day of our "Empowering Women Through Financial Freedom" activity.)
This is really what I love about Zonta. We get to help and affect in our own little way. Area 5 Director Bing the mastermind behind all of this; the woman whom without all this couldn't have been possible, would probably call me out on saying “own little way” because she says everything we do is beyond us or our immediate beneficiaries. Our actions create waves that ultimately affect women all around the world.
In the next couple of days I will share a very heart warming and fulfilling story about a woman who was abused and how Zonta stepped in to save her from the danger she was facing.
‘Til my next article, much love from your red haired sister. Honey
